On the Homefront: Remembering Those that Inspire Us

My hubby relaxing in a hammock in Afghanistan --- I made that hat for him!

My husband has an incredible knack for making the worst of situations as comfortable as possible. He will make you laugh, he will make you smile, he will bring tears of joy to your eyes! My husband is truly a major source of inspiration to me. He inspired me to make these soldier magnets:

and continues to inspire me to create many wonderful items for the home and office. His praise and encouragement is the best even when it is from thousands of miles away!

How have the men and women of the Armed Forces inspired you? Please use the comment space below to write about the service men and women who have inspired you. If you have a product line or item that they helped you come up with or encouraged you to create, please feel free to share a link to that item as well! I am excited to read and see what the wonderful men and women of our Armed Forces inspire in you!

Tuesday Talk - A Navy Brat, An Army Wife

As a child I was what many people call a Navy brat. My father was a Navy Seabee, a construction battalion of the Navy. Their job was to construct and tear down buildings, make roads, clear areas for others to move through and much more. I have always admired my dad for his willingness to be a part of something that worked to protect the lives of others - military and civilians alike.

My Hubby in Afghanistan

I used to laugh and say that I would marry a man in uniform someday because of the admiration that I have for my dad and other military personnel. Well, I did. I married an amazing man!

We met about 2 years ago and I have been blessed to have him in my life ever since! Not only is Drew serving his country as an Army-man, his family is of the utmost importance to him. He is incredibly supportive in helping me run Art Whims too! He is my strength and the love of my life!

Now, my hubby and I volunteer with my dad for the Sea Cadets. This last Saturday I had the privilege of chaperoning cadets aboard the decommissioned ship the USS Turner Joy. It was an amazing tour!

Being an Navy daughter and an Army wife has certainly had its challenges, but it is in those challenges that we have all grown to appreciate life and each other more; I would not change a thing!

Forever a Navy Brat and Always a loving Army Wife!

On This Memorial Day

Photograph taken at Pearl Harbor by my loving husband, Drew.

I have been a member of a military family my entire life. Starting as a NAVY "brat" and then becoming an ARMY wife I have always been exposed to the sacrifices that our soldiers encounter as well as their families. I am so thankful that there were and remain individuals that will fight for our freedoms, the nations stability and his our her family. Without these men and women I doubt that our nation would have made the progress that it has.

Please take this time to celebrate with me the strength, the valor, and bravery of all our soldiers past and present. To the soldiers and their families I send my love and strength! I will always remember.

Showing Support for Our Troops

Lately I have been working on some ornaments for the season and decided it was about time that I showed support for our troops through art work. I have created an Army Snowman Ornament and a Navy Snowman Ornament thus far and will be working to create more ornaments for the other branches as well! I am so excited about the way that they turned out.

I would also like to share a few of my favorite Etsians who either design items that show support for our troops or are related to members of the Armed Forces.

Homemade Zen sells a wide variety of crocheted critters that are perfect for children of all ages!

Another great Etsy shop is TwoSeaSideBabes. These gals are great crochet technicians! Let me tell you I am always impressed by the variety that their shop offers!

EarthAngelStudios is also a fantastic shop! You will find “boo boo” bags that as EarthAngelStudios writes are great for: “Great for warm therapy for migraine pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis and injuries, mastitis, breastfeeding, foot and hand warmers, gamers wrist, bean bag... err, rice bag toss. Keep these things in the freezer and they'll always be ready for stubbed toes, bumped noggins, bonked elbows, and other general aches, pains, and bumps and bruises.”

I hope that you will stop by some of these shops and see what they have to offer!

Have a great Thanksgiving and do not forget to thank our many soldiers who work hard to keep our homes safe and full of love!
